Intermission Part 1

„I can’t believe it! Why did you banish onii-sama?“ (TN: my brother or oni-sama)

In the audience room, a young girl was expressing her anger.

The man she is addressing, sitting on his throne with a stern look on his face, is Emperor Shahriyar Magref. At the same time, he is also the father of the angry girl and the banished Horus.

„His magic is useless. The sand attribute is a disgrace. That’s why I banished him.“

„Fo-For such reason! First of all, my brother’s magic would  be well worth using in places with sand. I grew up watching him work with his magic, making Sand castles and Sand dolls, and he would entertain me with them.

„Morgia. Running a country is not a game. What good does it do to be able to use magic in such a playful way?“

It was Shahara Magref, the emperor’s wife, who chastised Morgia. (TN: chastised is rebuke or reprimal severely)

„Shahara is right. Your other brother is already on the battlefield and fighting, but all he can do is play with sand. The magic that he has is useless. In this empire, there is no need for anything that is not useful in battle.“

Morgia bit her lower lip in frustration. The Magref Empire is an invading nation. In the western part of the continent, the Magref Empire possesses absolute military power and has won wars by leading magical divisions that wield powerful magic.

Emperor never doubts that strength is justice, and that domination is the sign of power. However, both Horus and his sister Morgia have their doubts about this approach.

The empire’s way of doing things is forceful, and if the other side does not comply, they will attack and kill everyone on the enemy’s side. (TN: on the other side– ORIGINAL is ichizokuroto)

And they would do it in a most brutal way so that other countries would see it. They had been doing this for generations, expanding their territory in this way.

But Morgia knew. Because of that overly forceful approach, there were many voices of dissatisfaction within the empire, and the seeds of dissatisfaction were beginning to grow.

Even so, until now, the empire had been enriched by the territories it had won in wars and the resources it had generated. During that time, many of us had no choice but to obey, even if we were dissatisfied.

However, the development activities were too forceful. And with the accumulation of problems such as deforestation, overexploitation of mines, and abandonment of labyrinths, the resources of the empire were slowly running out. If things continue as they are, the empire’s resources will be depleted in a few more years, according to a specialized magic scholar.

However, that scholar was accused of spreading research that undermined the empire without any evidence and was executed. And because of this, there are no more scholars who talk about things that are bad for empire.

Morgia was worried about the future of the country because she was hearing about this situation from other places as well. She was also worried about the future of the country, because it was in such a state that what was needed was someone like Horus, who had a kind heart.

„If you don’t need someone who can’t fight in battle, then you don’t need me either.“

Morgia gives them a sharp look and says so.

„What do you mean? It is true that you can not directly participate in the battle, but your spatial magic is very useful.“

„Supply is an important part of warfare. With your spatial magic, the soldiers can go to the front line without worry.“

But even as she said this, the eyes of Shahara, the empress, were cold. Horus was also disliked by the empress for being the son of a concubine. And Morgia was not the daughter of Shahara. She was born to Shahara’s sister, or so she was told. However, Morgia’s biological mother had died soon after giving birth to her.

Later, when she was twelve years old, she took an attribute test, and the result was spatial attribute. Her brother was hated and forced to leave the country because of his sand attribute, but Morgia’s magic was useful, so they let her stay.

However, if her attribute was mundane or useless to them, these two would have cut her off mercilessly.

Either way, Morgia was dissatisfied with the current state of the country, and although it sounded good to say that she was providing logistical support, what she was doing was little more than running errands.

In addition, even though it is logistical support, if you go to the battlefield, you will see things you don’t want to see.

„Anyway, forget about that trash.“

„That’s right. He’s a failure who can only play in the sand anyway. He’s probably dead in the desert.“ (TN: failure – good-for-nothing – dekisokonai original)

„Why, did you do such a terrible thing….“

„Hmm. That’s enough about that. Morgia, there’s something else I need to tell you.“

„Something you need to tell me?“

„Yes. Your marriage partner has been decided. It will be General Wazir, who has been gaining strength lately. You should be pleased.“ (TN: strength here means power in authority)

„What?“

Morgia had never heard of such a thing before. Moreover, Wazir was a general over forty years old. Although there is the difference as great as difference between a father and daughter, she could not even imagine marrying such a man.

And to be honest, he’s not her type. In the first place Morgia’s ideal type is a gentle but dependable man like her brother, Horus.

She doesn’t know what others see, but Horus was that to Morgia.

„I haven’t heard anything about that before…“

„That’s why I am saying it now.“

„No way….“

She was astonished. But this is the way of the Empire. The orders of superiors are absolute. Even if she is his daughter, she is not allowed to stand against him, the emperor.

„You were born as a daughter of the Emperor, so you should understand this.“

„Yes, I do. My marriage will be of service to the empire. It’s a great honor for me.“

„That’s what it is. If you understand, then get out and do some bride training so that he will like you.“

Morgia’s feelings for her brother went unheeded, and she is forced to marry someone she did not want to, which was the worst possible outcome. (TN: unheeded – heard or noticed but disregarded.)

As Morgia trudged down the corridor after being escorted out of the audience room, she saw a familiar face, but one she did not wish to see at the moment, approaching her.

She thought about turning on her heel and walking away, but she felt like she would be running away, which annoyed her. She had no choice but to continue on her way. As she walked past him without greeting him, he called out to her.

„Oi! You’ve become pretty important, passing me and not even saying hello.“

He spoke up and stopped Morgia. It’s a brown-haired man with cropped hair on both sides. He is the fourth prince of the empire, Shudell Magref.

„Excuse my rudeness. Good day to you. Well then, if you’ll excuse me.“

She wanted to leave as quickly as she could after a brief greeting. Morgia did not like this brother. She disliked all of them except Horus, but this fourth son was especially pushy and nasty.

„Hold on. You are my sister, but you are not behaving like one at all. Oh well, whatever. Have you met with father?“

„…I’ve just finished talking with him.“

I had no choice but to continue the conversation. When Morgia replied, Shudell chuckled and replied.

„Is that so, then I want to congratulate you. Your marriage partner has been decided, right ?“

„—! Why do you…“

When Morgia asked, Shudell replied with a grin.

„It’s because I was the one who advised father and mother to marry you, after all, you’ve grown quite attached to that scum that can only use sand. Naturally, I don’t think you’ll be able to escape from here so easily, but I suggested that you need some shackles to bind you just in case. Marriage would be the perfect way to do that, wouldn’t it?“

„Why, did you do that!“

„Oioi, what the heck are you doing looking at me like that for? Don’t get the wrong idea, okay? It’s true that it’s better than that trash who can only play in the sand, but your spatial magic is only useful for carrying luggage, and even on the battlefield, you’re nothing more than a scullery maid who can only be used as a pawn.“ (TN: scullery – a small kitchen or room at the back of a house used for washing dishes and other dirty household work.)

He grins and laughs, and makes fun of his sister Morgia. He really is a nasty man. If this was Horus, he would never have blamed others, and he would never have approved of such forced marriage—

  1. As a large invading country, shouldn’t you be very worried about the desert?? Or do they just assume that no enemies live there?

Also kind of ironic how they don’t like how Horus was playing in a sandbox then basically banished him to a HUGE sandbox.

Based on how it’s used, Morgia’s spatial magic seems to both be used for transportation (probably teleportation) and storage. So what do they plan to do if Morgia takes all their supply into her spatial storage space and then just teleports herself to either the enemy country that they are currently fighting or Horus?
